Rediscovering History

Tellería Solatsu is a pre-industrial tile factory built around 1700, a living testimony to the rich industrial heritage of the Basque Country.

In 2017, after decades of neglect, we embarked on an ambitious rehabilitation project aimed at restoring not just the building, but also reviving the rich history, tradition, and craftsmanship involved in the production of roof tiles, flagstone tiles, and bricks.

This ancestral craft, fundamental to the construction of our homes, also reflects the beliefs and customs that have shaped the Basque history.

Our purpose is to revive the memory of a forgotten industry—one that, with skilled hands and old techniques, crafted the tiles that have sheltered generations. Solatsu is more than a historical site; it offers a unique experience, immersing visitors in the essence of the Basque culture and providing the chance to explore the legacy of this profession up close. In addition to highlighting the profound emotional and historical value of this industry, Solatsu fosters connections and comparisons with other nearby regions and towns. We invite you to rediscover, experience, and learn from a past that continues to influence the present, reviving the knowledge and traditions that remain essential to our identity today.
